Sarah Montez (Jr., Royal HS, Simi Valley, CA)
Sarah Montez, a two time All Region performer will be a
key ingredient in the ’Cats lineup this fall. After redshirting
the 2005 cross country season Montez enjoyed a solid track season that
ended with an All-CCAA 1500m performance. With three NCAA races behind
her, including track, this year’s young team will count on Montez’s
experience.

Mary Biggs-Torres (Sr., Ventura College, Ventura, CA)
Mary Biggs-Torres returns to the cross country line-up
after taking maternity leave during the 2005 season. In 2004 the
JC transfer established herself as one of the best in the conference
placing third overall in the CCAA meet, and earning All-Region honors
two weeks later. Her NCAA finish helped the team to a 6th place
finish. After redshirting an entire year of competition following
the birth of her son Michael, Torres raced herself back into the NCAA
spotlight, posting national provisional marks and PRs in three track
events. At the CCAA championships in May, Torres recorded PRs in both
the 3,000m and 5,000m events. A tough and talented competitor, Torres
will surely be challenging for All-American honors in Florida this
November.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 4:44, 3000m 10:11, 5000m 17:30, 10,000m 37:14
|
Lyndsay Nelson (Jr., Pleasant Valley HS/Butte College, Chico, CA)
After transferring from neighboring Butte Junior College,
Lyndsat Nelson made an immediate impact on the Wildcat’s talented squad
during the 2005 season. Nelson ran inside the ’Cats top-five on several
occasions and barely missed All-Region distinction, placing 17th
overall in the regional championship race. In the spring Nelson picked
up where she’d left off in the fall, completely crushing her previous
bests from the oval. She recorded the fastest 10k time in the CCAA for
the year and also achieved a provisional NCAA mark in the 5k event. With
the experience gained from her first year of NCAA experience, Nelson
returns as one of the best distance runners in the West Region.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 4:57, 3000m 10:21, 5000 17:46, 10,000 37:12
|
Julie Shaw (So., Anderson HS, Anderson, CA)
Julie Shaw made an immediate and impressive debut for the
’Cats in the 2005 cross country season. The unassuming freshman, who
had planned to redshirt, was running too well not to run in uniform. In
her first collegiate race Julie placed 12th overall at the UC Irvine
Invite in a competitive 200+ runner field. Another highlight of her
season was her 14th place and All-Region earning performance at the West
Region championships making her the highest placing true freshman that
the ’Cats have ever had at the regional meet. Unfortunately a case of
iliotibial band syndrome took Julie’s freshman track season away, but
she’s healthy and ready to help the ’Cats to more success in the coming
years.
HS Best Marks: Woodward Park 19:36, 1600m 5:10, 3,000m 10:45, 3200m 11:35
|
Megan Williams (So, Granite Bay HS, Roseville, CA)
Possessing great leadership qualities and a wonderful
attitude toward her running, Megan Williams stands as a very important
piece of the Wildcat puzzle this fall. Megan has yet to earn post-season
individual honors, but lays only a breakthrough away from such
distinction. Her work ethic, attitude and track PRs offer a glimpse into
what she is capable of doing.
Track Best Marks: 800m 2:20, 1500m 4:58, 3,000m 10:38, 5,000m 18:27
|
Aisha Kamala (Jr., Soquel HS, Soquel, CA)
The ’Cats lineup is loaded with women who have potential
to run at a high level and Aisha Kamala may be at the top of the list.
Kamala ran times in high school cross country that showed great promise
for college running. Nagging injuries, and health issues have
interrupted her progress, but thankfully, Kamala enjoyed a full season
of uninterrupted training in the spring and summer. If a blend of self
confidence and good health are achieved, Kamala will surprise some
people this fall.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 4:56, 3000m 10:57, 5000m 19:14
|
Dinora Moran (Jr., Junipero Sera HS/El Camino College, Torrance, CA)
Dinora Moran, came to Chico in the fall of 2005 from the
strong El Camino Junior College program. In her first season with the
’Cats, Moran battled the transitions with training, and being far away
from her close family environment. As the adjustment was made Dinora
started to work into shape, ending her season with a very strong 33rd
place finish at the CCAA championships. Moran is one of a number of
Wildcat women who lack championship experience, but have the potential
to do big things as a breakthrough is made.
JC Best Marks: Woodward Park 19:20 Track Best Marks: 1500 4:49
|
Lindsey Brown (Jr., El Camino JC/San Pedro HS, San Pedro, CA)
Having transferred to Chico from El Camino Junior College
as an 800m runner with no previous cross country experience, Lindsey
Brown threw herself into cross country training in a serious way.
Results were somewhat scattered during her first year in Chico, but
there is no doubt that Brown turned herself into a stronger runner. At
the conclusion of the cross country season Brown rolled to an impressive
11:35 3,200m time trial, showing that she can compete well at the
longer distances. As Brown continues to gain strength she could help the
’Cats on the national level. As a Junior College runner, Lindsey
placed fourth at the 2005 State Track Championships in the 800m.
Track Best Marks: 800m 2:16, 3200m 11:35
|
Kellie Stephens (Jr, Alhambra HS, Martinez, CA)
A valuable part of what is Chico State distance running,
Kellie Stephens has enjoyed considerable success and improvements since
coming to Chico from Alhambra High. Highlights of her sophomore year
include a 19:03 5k on the oval and breaking the 12-minute barrier in the
3,000m steeplechase. Stephens has run below 20 minutes on several
occasions in cross country and will surely be a big part of the ‘Cats
attack in 2006.
Track Best Marks: Steeple 11:55, 3000m 10:55, 5000m 19:03
|
Ondi Foster (So., Liberty HS, Brentwood, CA)
As dedicated as an athlete can be, Ondi Foster, who
worked very hard since her arrival to Chico, has battled an assortment
of nagging injuries that have limited her consistency of training.
Still, the sophomore has enjoyed considerable success in both sports,
with the Steeplechase standing as her favorite track event.
Track Best Marks: Steeple 12:45, 5000m 20:08
|
Allison Ivie (Fr. Burbank HS, Burbank, CA)
Having red shirted her entire freshman year of
eligibility in both cross country and track, Allison Ivie stands poised
and ready to do her part to continue the Wildcat tradition of success.
As a redshirting freshman in cross country, Ivie enjoyed several
performances that indicate her potential for running at a high level.
Her 55th place finish in the Irvine Invite and a top-10 showing in the
Stanford Open 5k field, gave Wildcat fans a glimpse into what Ivie is
capable of in the future. Her track season was cut short by injury.
HS Track Best Marks: 1600m 5:33, 3200m 11:42

Incoming Female Athletes
|
Audrey Allas (Fr. Rancho Cucamonga HS, Rancho Cucamonga, CA)
Audrey Allas enjoyed solid success while at Rancho Cucamonga
High School, but dealt with an assortment of injuries that halted her
progression. When healthy, Allas posted impressive marks that show
potential for success at the college level. Allas will redshirt her
freshman season of cross country, while gaining the experience and
training needed to compete among the best in the CCAA.
HS Best Marks: Mt Sac 19:08
|
Kathleen Dazzi (Fr. Presentation HS, San Jose, CA)
As a senior in high school Kathleen Dazzi helped her team to
the State Championships after placing seventh in the Central Coast
Section cross country championships (D-III). In the track season the
senior picked up where she’d left off in the fall, clocking PRs at every
distance. Dazzi will redshirt this fall, gaining valuable experience
and fitness for the coming years.
HS Best Marks: Crystal Springs 19:05 Track Best

Jamie Humphries (Fr. Aptos HS, La Selva Beach, CA)
Jamie Humphries hails from the perennially strong Aptos High
School program. During her senior season she helped her team to the
State D-II cross country title. On the track, Humphries’ focus has been
in the middle distances where she has recorded solid 4x4 splits and 800m
times. As with her other freshman peers, Humphries appears set to
redshirt the fall season.
HS Best Marks: Woodward Park 20:11, Track Best Marks: 800m 2:24

Colleen Joyce (Fr. El Toro HS, Lake Forest, CA)
Colleen Joyce is familiar with success, having come from the
powerful El Toro High School program. She hopes to parlay her
experience into some solid results for the ’Cats in the coming years.
HS Best Marks: Mt Sac 20:13, Track Best Marks: 1600m 5:32, 3200m 12:05
|
Whitney Brixey (Fr. Truckee HS, Truckee, CA)
Perhaps the biggest obstacle for Whitney Brixey while in
high school was dealing with the elements that come with living at the
base of world-class ski areas. It was well beyond the mid point of her
senior track season before Brixey ran on a surface that wasn’t snow
covered. Despite these difficult training conditions, Brixey posted some
solid marks while at Truckee High School and will certainly enjoy the
training environment here in Chico.
HS Best Marks: 3200m 11:54
|
Ariana Nicewonger (Fr. Los Gatos HS, Los Gatos, CA)
Hailing from the always talented Los Gatos High School
program, Ariana Nicewonger has posted times that would indicate
potential for success within the Chico program. As many of her freshman
teammates will do, Nicewonger will most likely redshirt this season,
focusing on development and race experience.
Track Best Marks: 1600m 5:28, 3,000m 10:55, 3200m 11:35

|
Erica Thomas (RS Fr. Arroyo Grande HS, Arroyo Grande, CA)
Having been a multi-sport athlete in high School, Erica
Thomas came to Chico with intentions of playing on the Wildcats’ soccer
team and in fact was a redshirt on last year’s team. Beginning the fall
with the soccer program, Thomas made a last-minute decision to return to
her roots of running. The results have been promising, as Thomas has
established herself as a solid part of the Wildcat lineup. Thomas now
becomes the third soccer player to switch sports while here, following
Ahna Hallberg (’97) and Katie Enfield (’05). With limited recent running
background, it will be exciting to see how Thomas develops through the
course of the season and in the future.
Best Marks: NA

|
Alyssa Craft (Fr., Highland HS, Palmdale, CA)
As a junior at Highland High School, Alyssa Craft developed
into one of the top cross country runners in the Southern Section,
notching top placements at the Mt Sac Invite and Stanford Invite. Just
as the breakthrough occurred, Craft developed injuries that forced her
to miss much of her remaining high school eligibility. Now healthy and
back to consistent training, the freshman is set to return to fast
racing. To allow for a steady progression with training and racing,
Craft will redshirt the fall semester.
Best Track Marks: 1600m 5:21, 3200m 11:31

|
Scott Bauhs (Jr., San Ramon Valley HS, Danville, CA)
Having been on campus for only two years, Scott Bauhs
established himself as one of the greatest distance runners in the
history of the university. Bauhs has earned All American honors each of
his cross country seasons, and after redshirting his freshman track
campaign, smashed the existing school record for 10,000m during first
track season in 2005. He became the second Wildcat to break the
30-minute barrier for the 25 lap race, and eventually earned his third
All-American honor at the NCAA championships in the 10k. Bauhs now
prepares for his two remaining cross country seasons, and three on the
track. This summer Bauhs finished as the top US born athlete at the
Wharf-to-Wharf footrace, clocking an impressive 29:01 finish time in the
six-mile race. His tenth-place finish put him ahead of several former
D-I All-Americans, serving notice to his competition that he will be
tough to beat in these next three years.
Track Best Marks 800m 1:59, 1500m 3:51, 3000m 8:28, 5000m 14:23, 10,000m 29:39

|
Charlie Serrano (Sr., Royal HS, Simi Valley, CA)
During his first three years on the Chico State campus
Charlie Serrano earned a number of great honors including two
All-American awards on the track at the 5k distance. To his
disappointment though, he had dealt with an assortment of small injuries
that took away from the consistency of training needed to reach his
potential. In the 2005-06 school year Serrano showed what can be
achieved with consistent, uninterrupted training. After finishing second
in the region in cross country, behind teammate Pat Boivin, Serrano
went to the NCAA meet and earned his first cross country All-American
certificate. With a great fall of training behind him, Serrano rolled
into track with his eyes set on breaking the 30-year old school record
for the 5,000m. It took him fourteen minutes and six seconds to eclipse
Eddie Silva’s record, while creating a new standard for himself and his
teammates to chase this next track season. With the 5k record under his
belt Serrano took aim at Bauhs’ new mark for the 10k and narrowly missed
with his 29:43 run at the Mt Sac Invite. Serrano took his newfound
fitness and marks to the line at NCAA Championships attempting the tough
10k/5k double and pulled it off with flying colors, placing 5th in the
10k, and 4th in the 5k. Serrano has now earned All-American honors five
times, and stands as a key ingredient to the Wildcat’s lineup as they
look to improve on their third-place NCAA showing from a year ago.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 3:52, 3,000m 8:24, 5000m 14:06, 10,000m 29:43

|
Antonio Miramontes (Sr., Golden Valley HS, Merced, CA)
Without a doubt one of the toughest runners to have ever
worn the Wildcat uniform, Antonio Miramontes stands poised to help his
teammates to a landmark season. A cross country specialist, Miramontes
is amazingly well conditioned aerobically and handles the difficulty of
cross country courses as well as anyone. During the 2005 cross country
season Miramontes’ toughness and strength propelled him to a third-place
finish at the Willamette Invite (24:29), a sixth place finish at the
CCAA Championships, and a fourth place finish at the West Region
Championships, which earned him his second All-Region award. A victim of
an over-zealous first mile at the NCAA Championships last spring,
Miramontes missed his opportunity for All American status. This season
he appears poised to claim his first All-American honor, while helping
the ’Cats chase their team goals along the way.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 4:08, 5000m 14:54, 10,000m 31:18
|
|
Beau Bettinger (Sr., Castro Valley HS, Castro Valley, CA)
Beau Bettinger is a very important part of the Wildcat’s
hopes this fall. Having competed in several NCAA Championship
events Bettinger has the experience needed to perform well in the big
events. Bettinger has finished no worse than sixth overall in the CCAA
Championships and was seventh overall at the West Regional in 2005, but
heat exhaustion forced him to drop out at the 2005 NCAA Championships.
On the track, Bettinger has posted outstanding times from 800m to
5,000m. With a new fire for solid training beneath him, Bettinger has
the tools to carve times and performances that can rival almost anyone
in the nation.
Track Best Marks: 800m 1:51.82, 1500m 3:49, 3000m 8:26, 5000m 14:32

|
Kyle Ivie (Jr., Burbank HS, Burbank, CA)
A tough and methodical racer, Kyle Ivie has established
himself as a solid runner on the national level. In 2005 Ivie finished
ninth in the CCAA Championships, 16th in the West Regional and 39th at
the NCAA Championships, missing All-American honors by one place. During
the track season Ivie translated his success from the trails into some
nice PRs, while earning a trip to the NCAA meet in the 5,000m. Having
put in his best summer of training to date, Ivie appears poised to help
the ’Cats take a step forward on the national stage.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 3:53, 3000m 8:38, 5000m 14:20
|
|
Tim Tollefson (Jr., Rocklin HS, Rocklin, CA)
Tim Tollefson quite possibly stands as the most improved
member of the men’s cross country team. Graduating from Rocklin High
School, Tollefson ran in the 4:30s and 10:20s for the high school
distances on the track and was an average performer in cross country.
Upon high recommendations from his high school coach and former high
school teammate and current Chico State assistant Pat Boivin, Tollefson
was given a spot on the Wildcat roster. Approaching his training and
racing with a steady eye to the future, Tollefson turned himself into an
NCAA qualifier on the track, and seems poised to help this year’s cross
country squad at the NCAA Championships. His highlight race to date was
dropping his steeplechase PR from 9:35 to 9:09 at the 2006 Stanford
Invitational, while passing nearly the entire field during the course of
the race. Tollefson went on to win his second-consecutive steeplechase
title at the CCAA Championships and barely miss making the final at the
NCAA Championship meet two weeks later.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 4:03, 3000m 8:52, Steeple 9:09
|
|
Joel Martinez (Sr., Paso Robles HS, Paso Robles, CA)
A two time cross country All American in 2003 and 2003,
Joel Martinez adds more successful NCAA experience to this year’s squad.
The only problem has been the injuries which have plagued Martinez
since his final All-American run two years ago. If health and consistent
training are achieved, Martinez has proven twice that he can run with
the best in the NCAA.
Track Best Marks: 5000m 14:51
|
|
Angel Marquez (So., Wilson HS, Hacienda Heights, CA)
Having spent his freshman year redshirting both cross
country and track, Angel Marquez opened the 2005 cross country season on
the shelf with injury. By season’s end he finished as the ’Cats No. 11
runner, barely missing the CCAA Championships roster. During the track
season the talented, hard-working freshman recorded NCAA provisional
marks for the 1,500 and 5,000 events, setting himself up for the cross
country season ahead.
Track Best Marks: 1500m 3:53, 3000m 8:30, 5000m 14:42
|
Alex Duenas (So., Woodcreek HS, Roseville, CA)
A dedicated and talented distance runner, Alex Duenas has
struggled at times in making the transition to college running, but he
continues to train diligently in search of the breakthrough that will
propel him to the next level.
Track Best Marks: 3000m 8:55, 15:35
|
Jeffrey Wilson (So., El Camino HS, Oceanside, CA)
Since coming to Chico from El Camino High School, Jeff
Wilson has enjoyed solid performances in both cross country and track.
As a redshirting freshman he recorded a 15:09 for the 5k and a year
later earned All-CCAA honors in the 10k, while running a solid sub-32
minute PR. On the cross country courses last season, Wilson placed
seventh in the Stanford Open 8k race and appears ready for a solid
campaign in 2006.
Track Best Marks: 5000m 15:09, 10,000m 31:45
|
Aaron Torres (Sr., Ventura College, Ventura, CA)
Aaron Torres enjoyed his best season to date with the
Wildcats during the 2005 campaign. Torres rolled to a 25:37 PR at the
Willamette Invite and later improved on that mark, earning his first
All-CCAA honor with his 11th-place finish (25:29) at the CCAA
Championships. Torres is another talented and capable runner on
the Wildcats’ fall roster.
Best Marks: Cross Country Woodward Park 4 mile 20:42. Track Best Marks: 5000m 15:21, 10,000m 32:20
|
Rory Kuykendall (Sr., University of Montana/Drake HS/San Anselmo, CA)
Having been an All-State cross country performer while at
Drake High School, it was obvious that Rory Kuykendall was a talented
and hard working distance runner. After transferring to Chico from
University of Montana, Kuyendall spent a transitional year becoming
accustomed to the training and team environment. Last season, the junior
progressed as far as any Wildcat ever has during the course of a
season. Starting the season as the ’Cats 12-15 runner, Kuykendall’s
results improved week after week. His breakthough race was the CCAA
Championships, where he finished seventh overall and earned a spot on
the regional championship squad. Just as red hot at the regional,
Kuykendall rolled to an even-paced, ninth-place finish, earning All
Region honors. He finished a somewhat disappointing 51st place at the
NCAA Championships, but after a hard summer of training, he’s focused on
a higher finish this season.
Track Best Times: 5000m 15:09, 10,000m 32:24
|
Nick Clinton (Jr. Del Mar HS, San Jose, CA)
One of the hardest working members of the Wildcat team, Nick
Clinton has improved dramatically over the longer distances. As a high
school runner he excelled over the 800m distance on the track, but
failed to notch equivalent marks on the trails. Through a dedicated and
consistent approach to training Clinton has transformed himself into a
solid member of the Chico State cross country squad. Examples of this
progress include his Stanford Invite open 8k win last season. On the
track, Clinton has improved each year, dropping from 4:04 to 3:56 over
the past two track seasons in the 1,500m.
Best Marks: 800m 1:56, 1500m 3:56
|
Danny DiMeo (So., Brea Olinda HS, Brea, CA)
No one on the team can argue the fact that Danny DiMeo
stands as one of the hardest working most dedicated members of the
Wildcat squad. The final person to make the roster in 2004, DiMeo has
maximized his opportunity and quickly turned himself into a solid part
of the Wildcat distance team. In the fall of 2005 DiMeo made the CCAA
Championship squad, placing 21st overall. Unfortunately after last
season DiMeo broke his foot and then re-broke it two months after
returning to training. Surgery may be required to guarantee proper
healing, but DiMeo will be back and stronger when his health returns.
Track Best Marks: 3200m 9:45, 5,000m 16:02
|
Michael Wickman (Fr., Northgate HS, Walnut Creek, CA)
Michael Wickman joined the ’Cats in 2005 as a proven 800m
runner, but a developing cross country talent. Through his first fall of
redshirting Wickman worked hard to improve his aerobic strength, while
logging miles and getting used to the workout schedule. By the end of
the fall semester Wickman had recorded solid PRs at the longer distances
(31:17 for 6 miles, and 9:17 for 3200m). With the newly developed
strength behind him, and his already superb leg speed, Wickman decided
to run the track season in uniform. The true freshman made an amazing
transition to the 1,500m, qualifying for the NCAA Championships, where
he missed the final by a tenth of a second. In addition, highlights of
his freshman season of track were placing among the top three overall in
both the 800m and 1,500m events at the CCAA Championships.
Track Best Marks: 800m 1:52, 1500m 3:52, 3000m 8:42
|
Jordan Fairley (Fr., West Valley HS, Cottonwood, CA)
Part of a deep recruiting class from last fall, Jordan
Fairley came to Chico with shining credentials from West Valley High
School where his father Scott was his coach. Jordan’s biggest
achievement was placing in the top 10 at the State Cross Country
Championships for D-IV. Having spent his freshman year redshirting both
cross country and track, Fairley is excited to don the Wildcat uniform
this season.
HS Best Marks: Woodward Park 16:14, 800m 2:00, 1600m 4:23, 3200m 9:37
|
Jordan Page (Fr., Oak Park HS, Oak Park, CA)
Jordan Page joined the Wildcats having been a standout
member of the always-tough Oak Park High School program out of the
Southern section. As a high school runner Jordan notched some solid PRs
for the distance events, both in cross country and track, while helping
his team to several state meet births. He redshirted both cross country
and track and appears ready to tackle the season ahead.
Track Best Marks 5000m 15:36
|
Eduardo (Eddie) Serna (Fr., Brea-Olinda HS, Brea, CA)
Since coming to Chico from Brea High School in the fall of
2005 Eddie Serna has proven himself to be one of the hardest workers on
the Wildcat squad. Having already posted a low 20-minute, four-mile time
trial, Serna stands as a definite bright spot in the Wildcat lineup.
Track Best Marks 5000m 15:58
|
Thomas Whitcomb (Fr., San Pasqual HS, Escondido, CA)
Thomas Whitcomb comes to Chico from the storied San Pasqual
High School program in Escondido. As a senior, Whitcomb recorded a solid
16:16 time on a muddy Woodward Park course to finish 35th in the D-II
state meet race. Since coming to Chico in the fall 2005 Thomas has
worked hard and is now seeing the fruits of his labor with his early
season cross country performances. Without a doubt, Whitcomb is focused
on becoming a top cross country runner for Chico State.
Track Best Marks 5000m 15:51
|
Alex Sharp (Fr., South Tahoe HS, South Tahoe, CA)
As a senior in high school Alex Sharp finished in the top 10
at the Nevada State Cross Country Championships while representing
South Lake Tahoe High School. Since coming to Chico, Sharp has battled
injuries, but enjoyed a descent stretch of consistent training over the
summer. Recent time trials indicate that Sharp could provide the ’Cats
with even more depth in the future.
Track Best Marks: 3200m 9:43
|
| Incoming Male Athletes |
Manny Mejia Jr. (Fr., El Rancho HS, Pico Rivera, CA)
One of the Wildcats most versatile and talented recruits,
Manny Mejia stands as a bright spot for the future of the program. Mejia
enjoyed solid success as early as his sophomore year in high school,
clocking 4:20 and 9:33 for the 1,600, and 3,200 distances. He spent much
of the following years in and out of the training room, leaving him
with missed and partial seasons, and training cycles. Through it all, he
still managed to finish sixth overall in the Sweepstakes Race at Mt
Sac, and eventually helped his team to a state meet birth and an
eventual fifth-place finish his senior year. Injured again, Mejia missed
several months of training, forcing him to focus on the 800m event in
track. Running a fraction of the miles he was accustomed to, Mejia still
managed to qualify for the Masters meet, while clocking a 1:56 PR. With
consistent training and good health, Mejia will be a dangerous part of
the Wildcat lineup in the coming years.
HS Best Marks: Mt Sac: 15:02 Track Best Marks 800m 1:56, 1600m 4:20, 3200m 9:33
|
Clinton Hayes (Fr., Deer Valley HS, Oakland, CA)
Another amazingly talented and versatile athlete, Clinton
Hayes can, and did, run every event between 400m and 3,200m while at
Deer Valley High School. \With a long and flowing stride Hayes
dominated the North Coast Section in the 800m event during his senior
year, eventually clocking a 1:53 in qualifying for the State
Championships. Much like his good friend and former NCS rival Michael
Wickman, Hayes has good potential on the cross country courses. He
recorded a solid 15:46 time on the Hayward High School course during
the North Coast Section Cross Country Championships during his senior
year.
HS Best Marks: 400m (Relay Split) :48, 800m 1:53, 1600m 4:26, 3200m 9:46

Brendan Scanlon (Fr., DeLaSalle HS, Concord, CA)
Brendan Scanlon joins the Wildcat distance crew having done
his prep running under Head Coach Kevin Selby, a Chico State alum and
part of the 10th-place NCAA squad of 1995. In high school,
Scanlon developed into one of the top distance runners in the North
Coast Section. During his senior track season he posted an impressive
15:12 time on the Mt Sac course, placing 12th in the Sweepstakes Race.
He would also dip under 16 minutes on the Woodward Park course, placing
second overall at the Roughrider Invite. As with the other freshmen on
the squad, Scanlon will redshirt the fall season as he adjusts to
college training and racing.

Julio Jimenez (Fr., El Rancho HS, Pico Rivera, CA)
Another impressive addition to the Wildcat lineup comes in
the form of Julio Jimenez of El Rancho High School. With a solid work
ethic and a quiet, yet confident, sense about him, Jimenez is already
showing the skills that carried him to a top 20 individual finish at the
Southern Section Cross Country Championships. A key cog in the El
Rancho machine that was at times ranked in the Nike Team Nationals
scenario, Jimenez is a consistent performer and solid recruit for the
Chico State team.
