McGlothlin and Wood go out hard while Reed, out more conservately, doesn't pull even with her

Hodgkinson's usual quick start exhausts all but Fritzke, who after losing a lot of
yardage early, holds on well to take second. A fresh Robberson and Morevec fail to set
a pace to discourage a once raced Shaw from tagging along. Shaw, possessing a superior kick,
separates herself from her wind breaks with 800m to go to take third.

STATE: Hannah Hodgkinson, 10:51.45 (PR), 8/25+ finals (79-79-82-82-83-85-84-78)
       State Champion: Lindsay Flacks/Harvard-Westlake 10:26.25
Hodgkinson starts out near the back and gradually picks people off as the pack
strings out. Last couple of laps quite a few competitors passed although one does
come back to pass Hannah down the final straight away but she uses her to remain ahead
of another hard finishing competitor. Both (maybe all three) pass a runner near the
finish who is on the verge of collapsing.

  7 Jarvey, Josh Big Valley 70-75-81-71 4:55.60

A tactical race where Martinez is content to let Pierce lead through three laps as
all the racers have to contend with a brutal head wind in the home stretch. Pierce's pacing
draws along Teesdale, Crowl and, to a lesser extent, Nicoara. A nice surge gives Martinez
the lead early in the final lap which he opens up to a several meter advantage with 25m to go.
However decelerating to a jog, Martinez points to the sky as he crosses the line, apparently
more content to showboat than worry about losing to a fast closing and never quitting Pierce.
Teesdale and Crowl run seasonal, and perhaps personal, bests in finishing 3rd and 4th.

Ogden takes control of the race early in the first lap and never relinquishes it,
though Fairley and Fritzke stay close much of the race. Carroll is dropped at the
mile and is caught/passed by Edsall, who looked uninspired early. Fritzke is dropped
in lap six but Fairley remains close, moving up to Ogden's shoulder at the beginning
of the final lap. They stay shoulder to shoulder through the final turn with Ogden
holding the inside position. A final surge by Ogden down the home stretch opens a
couple meter gap which Fairley can't close so he concedes the win to his Viking
competitor by walking across the finish.

STATE: Nathan Ogden 9:46.81 20/26 finisher in finals (68-71-71-76-77-78-76-69)
       State champion: Yosef Ghebray/Logan 9:04.20
Ogden looks good early although still near the back of the pack, stuggles
in the middle then rallies at the end. Not his best race

Ramos the victory over last year's surprise winner Stevens. Steven's closed
the race better than Ramos, just was too far behind to make a difference.

Chico never leads as Paradise and West Valley duke it out up front. A strong
third leg gives Paradise the lead for good, although Hammer/Chico makes the
finish more exciting than it would otherwise have been as he closes the gap on
Handley noticeably with 200m to go then somehow manages to hold on until the tape.
