Rebol, trying to avoid the heartbreak of loses to Bartlett at Chico Invite and Brandt at
the Division 1 Championships, was determined not to take the early lead. However with the
field triping over each other in not wanting to take the lead, Rebol relents and takes point
entering the homestretch and leads a relatively tight field through 400m. A strong surge rounding
the third turn opens up huge gap for the Spartan junior. Rebol, moves quickly down the final backstretch,
with only the Oroville freshman making any attempt to catch the leader. Rebol holds on well
to win with a PR. Brandt, showing a lot of spunk, did manage to cut a 20m lead in half by the end
of the race, to also PR. Bartlett, running third most of the race, eases up too soon and is
nipped at the wire by Galligan.

Heflin leads after one, surges to retakes the lead after being passed by Johnson and Storms
rounding the third turn. Heflin relinquishes the lead for good to Johnson in early in lap
three but stays close, matching strides with Storms. Johnson gaps the fields early in final
circuit and cruises home for the victory, leaving the two freshman to battle for second place.
In a reversal from the previous week, Storms out kicks her Lassen competitor coming down the
homestretch to grap the silver. Chico's Henker running in fifth most of the race, passes a
fading Rasmussen (who was near the leader through 800) late in the last lap to take fourth.

Heflin takes point from the gun and sets the pace for a couple of laps with only Sharp unable
to hang. Wv's Johnson, Storms take over and lead through five with Gruber and Chico's Johnson
tucked in right behind as Heflin fades to the back of the lead pack. Chico's Johnson surges to
the front early in lap six. WV's Johnson goes with her with only Gruber staying close as Storms
is dropped. The Panther senior relinquishes the lead to her West Valley counterpart early in lap
seven and fades to third with a lap to go as Gruber opens up a couple stride advantage over her.
However, Chico's Johnson, perhaps using her dismal performance the previous week as a motivator,
unleashes an amazing kick to quickly pass Gruber then catch and pass the race favorite with 200m
to go. She holds the lead through the turn but is unable to hold off her surprised competitor coming
down the home stretch. It was good to see the Chico senior finish her high school career with easily
her best performance ever!

alternates. D'Acquisto, despite the sparse, uncompetitive field, sets a mean pace from
the get go in hopes of dipping under 4:20. The Enterprise freshman, the state 1600m leader
among 9th graders, gave the mark a good scare although a too fast opening lap (and no
competition) left him a little short of his goal.

Siperek, opening up a small gap on the field, leads the first lap. Most catch up as the
second lap ends with West Valley senior joined up front by D'Acquisto with Naas, Reed, Minor
Rubio and so it remains through the California mile. The lead pack whittles down to three
in lap 5 with only D'Acquisto, Naas and Siperek in contention. A lap six surge by the
Enterprise freshman is matched by Naas with Siperek the odd man out. However the pickup leaves Naas
too tired to fight off a Siperek surge entering the final lap although he rallies enough to
hold off the strong finishes by Minor and Rubio.
