Rebol, moves quickly down the final backstretch, with only the Oroville freshman making any attempt to catch the leader. Rebol holds on well to win with a PR. Brandt, showing a lot of spunk, did manage to cut a 20m lead in half by the end of the race, to also PR. However, Chico's Johnson, perhaps using her dismal performance the previous week as a motivator, unleashes an amazing kick to quickly pass Gruber then catch and pass the race favorite with 200m to go. She holds the lead through the turn but is unable to hold off her surprised competitor coming down the home stretch. It was good to see the Chico senior finish her high school career with easily her best performance ever!
