Heflin opens with a strong first lap with only Stratton content to stay on her shoulder. A short distance back are Rasmussen, Canchola and Schell. Schell fades in lap 2. Rasmussen, feeling the effect of recent illness, does a slower fade but never mounts any serious threat to the leaders. Meanwhile Canchola never closes the gap with the leaders but the distance to the leaders doesn't enlarge either. A big surge early in the final lap gives Stratton the lead which she expands going down the back stretch. Rounding the final turn, her lead over Heflin looks solid while Canchola appears to be closing on second. Unfortunately, Statton runs out of gas with about 30 meters to go. Heflin's no better off but Canchola is, sprinting by her fatigued opponents with only a few meters to spare. Appears this race was hand timed, which explains why the two slower finishers, Hoy and Irle, were not given times.
