Cunningham scratches, replaced by Skemp & Weisfield (not sure why 2 replacements made).
Weinrich's early clearance's at lower heights puts the pressure on the field to match him.
It allows him to conserve his energy (on a very busy day) that ultimately rewards him with
his first of two section titles on the day and a nice PR in the event.

Despite the fields in the distance races enlarged to twelve this year, only ten run the
girls 1600m as Storms, Schell scratch to concentrate on other races while Rinzler fails to
show up. Brooke Feranna is the only replacement. Heflin opening 74 opens a wide gap
over the rest of the field. A second lap 84 allows the chase pack catches back up with the
Lassen senior halfway through. The penultimate lap finds Heflin joined by Lora James,
Sarah Brandt, Stephanie Rassmussen and Hannah Dorman. Brandt, James pass Helfin going into
the bell lap and it quickly becomes a two person race. Brandt leads going into the final turn
but James surges around her section rival coming off the turn to come away with her first
section title and a nice PR.

 11 David Neill Yreka 9 4:45.57

An easy win for the Enterprise senior as D'Acquisto gaps the field early and never
takes his foot off the gas. The race for second proved exciting as the rest of the field
was tightly bunch after the first circuit. The chase pack is weened down to Buroz, Brandt,
O'Toole, Inkman and Thomas at 800. Buroz takes control coming into the homestretch on lap
three with Thomas, O'Toole and Brandt doing their best to hold on. Buroz's brutal surge
whittles the race down to two as only O'Toole is able to stay close to the Chico sophomore.
O'Toole pulls up even off the final turn as Buroz temporarily loses momentum. However he is
unable to pass as Buroz somehow finds enough energy to hold off the U-Prep senior.

Kimball, Shinohara scratch, replaced by Tognolini. Teammates Storms and Dorman open up a big
gap on the field with a fast first lap. May, Hickman, Rasmussen and Ducazau separate from the
field to catch a fading Dorman by the end of lap two while Storms overall lead holds steady.
Storms lead expands slightly over the chase pack by the mile. May strikes out on her own to cut
the deficit in half a lap later. This move strings out the chase pack with only Hickman and
Rasmussen staying in contact. A lap, Rasmussen is dropped, Hickman closes in and May catches the
race leader. The race is dead even between Storms, Hickman and May with a lap to go. The sprint
for home drops Hickman, the only one of the leaders to end the day with a PR, as Storms has
just enough to hold off May.

STATE: Corissa Storms skips state to go to graduation.

No drama in who would win this race, only a matter of how fast. Like the 1600, D'Acquisto sets
a pace nobody can match to come away with his second victory on the day. Another good battle for
second develops. This time between Whelan, Ghelfi, Meredith, Stillman and Bransky with the Etna sophomore
pulling away in the second mile. After fading badly laps 5,6 Ghelfi mounts a strong charge over the
remaining laps to roar by Meredith for third. Stillman also closes well to break ten for the
first time.
