Edmondson, Evanoff, Brown scratch, only replaced by Stone. Finley starts well
and has the early lead but Brose's superior close gives her the tight win to prove
her win over the Pleasant Valley senior at the Division 1 Championships was no fluke.

Finley, Hinkston scratch, replaced by Moody but on the way to the starting line
decides not to run. Despite coming in with the top section time, the short turnaround
from the 400 proves too much for Winter's Evanoff to overcome as she fades coming
down the home stretch, unable to mount a serious threat in preventing Brose's
second win of the day.

Ahiligwo, Costa scratch, replaced by Jostock. No drama here, just a matter
of how long the competition can stay close. Atkins takes the field out in a
brisk 65 with only the younger Hinkle able to stay close. The gap expands slowly
during the final circuit until Hinkle fades coming down the home stretch as the
Chico senior rolls to the state meet.

Atkins, Finn, Grant, Dorman, Hickman, Mino-Faukner, May scratch. Dyson is a no-show.
Looking like a West Valley dual meet, Hinkle takes point and Storms tucks in behind.
Early in the second lap they pull away from the field. The final margin comes as Hinkle's
closing lap proves too much for her freshman teammate.

No stratches but Sampson does not finish. Hickman takes the early lead with the rest of
the field tucking in behind. A lap later Arnold, Diaz and Sampson are falling out the
back. After three, Hickman still leads a tightly bunched lead pack that has shrunk to
seven after gapping Payne and Reed. The halfway point is reached in 5:45. Hickman relinquish
the lead to Finn shortly thereafter. The lead pack stretches a bit on lap 5 but doesn't disintegrate
until lap six with Finn on point and Dorman and Storms maintaining contact. A lap later,
Storms is done and Dorman surges into the lead. Finn matches strides through the turn but
lacks the gear Dorman unleashes down the backstretch. Dorman maintains her strong pace over the
closing 200 while Finn slows after knowing the race is all but over, allow Storms to nearly catch her at
the line. A disappointed Hickman finishes alone in fourth while UPrep sophomore Mino Faukner breaks 12
minutes for the first time to take fifth.

Meredith, Whelan, Wichmann scratch, replaced by Woollard, Hoffman. Espinosa, trying his tactic from

Only Williams, Neill, Jensen and Lopez stay close to this insane pace. 200 meters later Espinosa and
Lopex drop out the back while Williams takes over the lead with teammate Neill and Jensen just behind off
his right shoulder. Halfway, Neill passes Williams with Jensen still close. Further back the chase pack
lead by Bunn, Buroz are joined by Lopez, Espinosa. Its a three man race with a lap to go. However Jensen
has nothing left and Williams is also compromised by the blistering opening lap, leaving section leader Neill
the only one who can run a ragged mile and survive as he closes in 65 for an almost five second victory.

Neill, Williams scratch, replaced by Hoffman. Etna's Whelan and Foothill's Meredith renew their
rivalry from section's cross country championship that was won in the final mile by the Etna junior. Once again
Whelan sets the pace with Meredith a stride back. An opening 68 lap strings out the field except for
Meredith. Nothing changes for six more laps, Whelan leads but by never more than a stride. On the final lap,
Whelan throws everything but the kitchen sink at Meredith who somehow manages to catch back up coming off the final
turn. Moving into the homestretch Meredith finds another gear to slowly inch by and slowly pull away from Whelan,
making for an epic finish to a race in which saw the top five finisher all PR.
