Flagg (also qualified the 800), Baley, Turner (sticks to the hurdles & long jump), Chin
stratch to leave a pretty small field. So a race that could have seen 4-5 runners under
60 seconds, only has two. Hinkston, although unlikely to pull out the win, gave a determined
effort to come away with a time that would have won many North Section championships. She unfortunately
ran in a year with spectacularly talented individual. Sofia Evanoff, the Winters sophomore, was so
dominating in winning by running the first sub 57 second 400m since Nicole Teter did it in 1989!

Storms, Dyson scratch and are replaced by Adams, Sampson. Flagg takes the lead at
the gun with teammate, top seeded, Hinkle tucked close behind but the rest of the field
not staying particularly close. Flagg takes the field through a 70 second opening lap with
a stride or two lead over Hinkle. Hinkle makes a surge down the back stretch to close the gap
but loses momentum around the final turn and fades down the stretch as Flagg negative splits
to grap the win.

Hickman, Mino Faukner scratch, replaced by Reyes. Storms leads as the field stays tightly
bunched through 800m. A foursome, with Storms at point followed closely by Dorman, Davis
& Moran, emerges early in lap 3. Moran loses contact rounding the penultimate turn as the
paces noticeably quickens. Storms, Dorman are neck & neck down the back stretch but Dorman
fades around the final turn and is passed by Davis. A comfortable win by Storms, Davis is
unchallenged for second. Dorman struggles down the home stretch and is nipped at the tape
by a fast closing Moran.

Ostrowski, Hoffman scratch, replaced by Lewis. Natalie Hickman takes the point rounding
the first turn and then procedes lead the race at a pace she has never run before. The field quickly
discentagrates into two packs with only Dorman, Storms, Davis, Mino Faukner and Moran staying
with the race leader. Moran, perhaps a little fatigued by running the 1600 earlier, cracks first,
followed by Mino Faukner and Storms, who pulled off the 1600/3200 double win the week before, loses
contact in the sixth lap. Hickman, still nominally leading at the bell, is passed by Davis going into
the penultimate turn. However Davis gives way to Dorman who opens up a big gap going down the backstretch.
She widens her lead down the final straightaway to come away with a commanding win. Hickman closes in on
but cannot catch Davis to finish third. Thanks to Hickman pace work, this was probably the fastest girls
3200 in the North Section ever as 5/6 top finishers run PRs and five ran under 11:30.

Midkiff, Whelan scratch, replaced by Hernandez, Gomez-Mora. A very competitive, although not particularly
fast race. Herman takes the pole & sets the early pace (~59) with Jensen, Morzenti, Diera, Graber and
Schaake very much in contention. Diera goes for broke & takes the lead going into the back stretch but fades
rounding the final turn as Jensen surges to the lead followed closely by Graber, Morzenti. Jensen expands

Jensen, Whelan, Silva, Herman scratch, replaced by King. After a ridiculuously slow 800 (2:24) that drops
nobody, a surge by Zufall strings out the field with only Midkiff. Diera and Garcia able to stay close. Garcia
loses contact by the time he reaches the home stretch and Diera's out of the picture after rounding the
penultimate turn. Midkiff goes around Zufall down the back stretch and rebuffs several attempts by the Shasta
senior to retake the lead. The winner, after the pedestrian start, closed out with a 60 second final lap.

No scratches. Whelan sets the tempo from the gun and methodically expands his lead through the race, to
win by a wide margin. Zufall proves to be the best of the rest as he along with Murch, Silva and Hinz take
pulls leading the chase pack. Hinz, Zufall separate themselves from the field with a lap to go before the
Shasta senior accelerates away over the final circuit to take his second silver on the day. Unfortunately,
the final lap proves to be disasterous for Hinz as he is unable to mounts any resistance while being passed
by Nitzkowski, Silva and Murch, who all end up breaking 10 minutes. And now after doing much of the late race
pace work, Hinz cannot even hold to enough of a pace to dip under this season long goal himself.

No scratches. Long relay proves to be another Red Bluff, Pleasant Valley dual. A strong second
leg by Celis has PV virtually even with the Spartans but a strong third leg gives Red Bluff enough of
a cushion such that Cox, the section 400 champ, can only shrink and not overcome.
