Cody Beaumont scratches, replaced by Pierce. Presleigh's final jump proves to be his best
of the year and two inches better than anybody else to claim the section title. Odd event,
five had leaped 21' or better prior to the section meet, yet three of whom don't make the
meet or decline to compete. But only two do here & one, who happened to be the winner, did
it for the first (& only) time at this meet.

Chico's Wilson, Red Bluff's Renfroe & Yreka Ward scratch to consentrate on 3200. Replaced by
Askew & Kaur. Curiously, Cohen with the slowest seed time, bolts out to the lead and has a pretty big
lead after a lap as no one else is crazy enough to run an opening lap 74. The lead dissappears
lightning quick with Lewis taking over followed in short order by Koehnen, Moran then Swagler, Askew & Avalos.
No changes in postion through lap 3, then Moran opens the final circuit by surging to the lead with Koehnen
only hanging close. Moran leads for maybe 30 meters then boom, Koehnen flies by so quickly that upon reaching
final turn the race is over. Koehnen powers to the finish to win with a big PR.

No replacements. Hastings takes control after a pedestrian opening lap with Skoy nominally leading. Hasting
remains comfortably in the lead with Morzenti, Skoy 2-6 meters behind. Both go by Hasting going down the
back stretch of the final lap. Skoy surges first, Morzenti follows, dropping Hastings. Shoulder to shoulder

No scratches. Nobody breaks 15 second this year until today, then two do. Ross with an amazing start,
opens up a stride on Cardenas coming off the first hurdle that the Gridley junior is never able to a make up. A
flawless race the rest of the way for both but this early gap proves insurmountable Still Cardenas runs
an excellent race, dipping under 15 for the first time and leaving a sizeable gap between her and the rest
of the field. This is the second time for Ross with a wind legal mark under 15 seconds. The section
record was wind aided.

No scratches. Herbertson has the early lead, with Martinez a close second. By the third hurdle
Voorhees & Murphy pass Herbertson as he lands awkwardly. Murphy pulls even with Voorhees three hurdles
later then pulls away from there. A strong finish allows Branton to edge Herbertson. Kind of
surprising with ideal conditions that only two would PR in the race.

Molly Ross and Emily Adams scratch to concentrate on other races. A strong start gives Kerman
the early lead with Mendonca & River not far behind. Galwey runs the opening 200m more measured
than the rest and easily has enough to draw even and pass the early leaders rounding the final turn
and pull away from there. Mendonca closes next best going from 4th to 2nd down the home stretch.
Still a good effort all around as the top six all PR.

superior close gives the Las Plumas senior his first of two titles on the day. Top ranked Cody Beaumont
decided not to compete in 400, opting for the 100,200 & long jump instead. He qualified in all three but
only opts to do the long jump. Curious

Yadira Gamboa scratches, replaced by Fogle. Until this race only seven girls in the section had
broken 2:30, then eight to it at sections. Only two in the field did not PR, one of whom (Acheson) took
the race out in 67. 1600m titlist Koehnen runs in fourth much of the opening lap, surges into the
lead around the penultimate turn transforming a tight race into a joke in a matter of seconds. Moran,
buried in the chase pack, also whips around the turn but needs the following straight away to pass Acheson,
then Adams to move into second, where she closes well enough to come away with a seasonal best but doesn't
cut into gap with the leader. Top freshman, in a race loaded with freshman, was Bailey Jones who knocked off
five seconds from her previous best. Emily Adams drops nearly 12 seconds off her seasonal best to come away
from her last high school race with a nice four second PR.

section leader Baldwin opens up a sizeable gap down the backstretch but the field closes
some coming into the homestretch with Knowles surging by Hoe, Cheek and Sprague to position
himself in second at the bell. Turning into a two man race, Knowles gives chase to briefly
close a 4 stride lead to two before fading. The chase pack is led by Sprague but the Chico
senior is passed arounding the final turn by Hering then Cheek and finally Hoe before finally

Brenna Mendonca scratches, replaced by Schillig. Some people just know how to finish and Molly Ross
is just such a person. Coming off the final turn Ross, Cardenas and Mace are virtually tied. Each
would gain a slight advantage over the others coming down the home stretch. A lunge at the tape gives
Ross the victory and section title. Once again the girls 300 hurdles is the best race of the section
meet both in terms of quality and how close the finish was. 2016 version of 300 hurdles was the 2nd best
in the section ever, only exceeded by the one two years ago in which Ross was third. Two years ago it was
1-2-6 all time, this year "only" 4-5-8 all time with Ross moving from six to four. Cardenas moves from 25
to 5 and Mace was not on the list at all until this year.

Biggs' Gonzalez scratches, replaced by Dodgen. The race evolved into a duel between Cummings and Teague.
The Enterprise freshman propencity to crash into hurdles late probably would have cost him the race anyway
but the penultimate hurdle made sure as his leg came down on the wrong side of the barrier and he went
sprawling on the track. Easily the best race of the season for Teague, an event he had limited experience
with. Defending champion Davila was a total non factor in the race.

Shasta's Avalos scratches, replaced by Bringolf. Rarely has anyone tripled at sections, especially not for someone with a
legitimate chance to win any of the distant events. A fair amount have done a 1600-3200 double but nobody's willing to run
another race in between which you have little chance of winning. However this year was different, no one in the section
having a lock on any race and Koehnen was used to tripling although not on the section's biggest stage and not with so little
time in between. Lewis sets the pace for a few laps, gives way to Wilson upon reaching the half way point all the while
with Koehnen content just to stay close. Everyone knows what going to happen, no mystery here but with Wilson not having much
history running the eight lap race doesn't really ratchet the pace down much. A penultimate lap 83 does stretch out the field,
but this proves to be too little too late as Koehnen runs her final lap faster than anybody else does in any distance race (except her).

Morzenti, Hastings scratch, replaced by Hunter, Kostenko. Harper should have won in a cake walk but that's why they run
the races. A pedestrian 800 drops nobody, Emanuel strings out the pack in lap 3 and Harper's 65 really does the job in
completing the metric mile. A couple 70s give Harper a commanding lead (~50m if not more) over Skoy with an 800 to go.
However then Harper's pace slows and the lead shrinks such that with 200m to go Skoy smells blood & starts sprinting.
Curiously Harper pace drops to a jog down the home stretch while he moves into lane two. A curious development if you're
contending for a section title. Anyway Skoy surges pass Harper for the win. Harper collapses after finishing and has
trouble making it up the awards stand, looking a lot like he did six months ago at the section cross country championships
that finished on this same track.
