No scratches. A spirited competition that still ended up fairly close to how they
were seeded. Only Fune's nearly one foot PR and Thompson's sub par day had any impact on
placing. Top seeded Burke managed to come up enough of a jump to hold off Curry.

Calvin Spellman scratched, replaced by Scribner. Keables was the hot jumper coming into
the competition but could never come up with a big one. Presleigh, defending champion, comes out
on top needing a PR to eek out the victory in which the top five where separated by only 5 inches.

STATE: Wilson Presleigh declines state berth probably to attend graduation.

Only this time section leader Hernandez blinked, after Richmond clears 15 feet for
the first time, by coming straight down on the bar after initially clearing it by
roughly a foot.

Ryan Keables/PV, Alan Hunter/Willows scratch, replaced by Gamble, Lewis. Six are in
at 6-2 but only Gentles able to clear anything higher. Defending champion Miller, never
showing much consistency all season, couldn't pull off a miracle.

No scratches. No surprises here with Grotegeer so much better than anyone else in
the section. Such that even with a throw over 14 feet off her best, she still beats by
runnerup Rogers over 16 feet despite a modest improvement by the West Valley sophomore on
a PR she set the previous week.

are able to do so on the day with Kutch, the section leader, having just enough to hold
off Coffey.

STATE: Kari Kutch/Shasta declines state berth, not sure why.

Jamie McEntire/Biggs scratched, Dodgen & Bonivert added. Unlike last year's sit & kick
strategy, Koehnen goes out hard with only Renfroe willing to stay close. Lap two sees freshman
Dudley and Clements pull away from the rest of the field but are still more than 10m behind the leaders.
Renfroe loses contact rounding the turn while Clements passes Dudley and begins to close on Renfroe.
A "slow" lap by Koehnen makes no difference but Renfroe is caught by Clements while Dudley fades badly.
A final circuit gives the Hamilton City senior a ten second win. Clements closes well to take
second and a huge PR. Likewise Murillo, who second to last after the opening circuit, probably ran the
most even splits to close in on Renfroe and end up fourth with a 10 second PR.

None of the top competitors willing to double, section leader Hasting is content to let
UPrep's Nathan Lervold to lead the opening lap, taking the field out in 66. Only Fernandez
attempts to stay close. Early in lap two, Hasting stays over. Lervold fades and is passed by
Fernandez with Morfield attempting to stay close. Kyle Johnson leads the chase pack. A 64 lap
has big consequences on those that attempted to stay close as Hastings breaks it wide open in
lap 3, with Morefield, then Lervold caught by the chase group. Hasting cruises home with a new PR.
Johnson and Anderson latch on to Fernandez then surge around him over the final turn, with Anderson
opening up a 5m gap on Johnson hitting the home stretch. Johnson closes the gap to finish within a second
of Mt Shasta senior. Fernandez hold on as best he can to take fourth.

deliberate start doesn't allow Harper to make up the stager until the 200m mark. She
rounds the final turn with the lead and doesn't look back. The nearly the entire field runs PRs.

No scratches. It is not a good sign when your best time was done in the first race of the
year. Such is the case with section leader from day one, Alisha McFall. With a heavy taped quad,
she starts reasonably well maybe tied with Bailey for second but Kermen clearly has the best
start, the best middle and the best close for a convincing win.

Lauren Harper/Trinity, Bailey Jones/WV scratch replaced by Dockendorf & Little. Kayla Page
takes the early lead but loses it to Koehnen, Krier on the backstretch and then is passed by Clements and
McEntire rounding the turn. Koehnen opens up a gap coming come the home stretch and expands it further
rounding the penultimate turn then cruises to the win. Meanwhile Krier is caught by McEntire rounding the
final turn but after briefly moving into second has nothing more left and is passed back by Krier. Clements,
probably less than 100% coming off her 1600m PR, finishes fourth. Still a very good day for McEntire, running
two PRs on the day, one a sub 60 400m and a low 2:20 800, watch out for the Biggs sophomore next year.

Deven Hernandez/WV, Brock Fischer/Enterprise scratched, replaced by Amasaki and Edmondson (?).
Although a little ragged at the end, Cummings is not pressed too much by the competition. Section
number two Trento has a tough day, badly clipping a hurdle early in the turn to end any
hope for a section title. Ended up only beating the two guys who were lucky just to be in the race.

No scratches. Askew leads lap one, Koehnen takes lap two with only Hall, Ayars and Renfroe trying
to stay close. Hall takes off in lap 3, breaking the race open with only Koehnen able to stay remotely
close. The lead expands to 40m maybe a little more in lap 4, holds steady in lap 5 but then her pace
noticeably slows (a fact not lost on Koehnen). The pace slows further in lap six and more in seven and just
like that Koehnen is not only back in contention, but blows by Hall with about 500m to go. Koehnen second straight
triple at section which just a few minutes earlier looked very much in doubt, is a done deal as she closes well
(other than being a little wobbly final 10-20 meters). Still a good race by Hall, running only her fourth 3200 on
the track ever. While never in contention, Renfroe keeps to her racing plan despite the theatrics up front & comes
away with a big PR.

No scratches. What a race! Everybody engaged, everybody is racing, Laying on the line, not content just to finish.
Sure Emanuel takes the point early, leaves the pace relatively modest for an 800m before ramping it down for three
laps. This breaks apart the field with only Skoy and Giannini able to stay in the same area code. Skoy looks a little
in trouble mid race but rallies well and then unleashes a kick (62 second closing lap) that takes him from 70-80 meters
back to nearly the section title ending up within a second of Emanuel. A tough guy to beat even if is has only been
healthy for a part of the season.
