Tate's exuberance costs her as she fades into the chase pack. A nice kick separates freshman Heacock from the group to grab second although a late charge by Ashby almost catches her at the line. Hasting ratchets down pace dramatically early in lap three putting a strain on the faces of all but the leader. Torres is dropped while teammate Moore is stretched but hangs on while up front Hastings keeps the pace honest. The lead expands in lap 4 even though the pace eases late.
