The tempo turns more brutal in lap six as a backstretch surge gives Brennan a short lived lead before being repassed by Baun on the homestretch. Baun ups the ante close to a sprint in lap seven with Brennan holding on until finally broken and apparently out of contention with mear 200m to go. Baun expands his lead to 10m rounding the race's final turn and looks to be in position to secure the win. Yet with about 80m to go the wheels come suddenly off.
