No scratches. All but two of the field clears 5 feet but only Shasta's Jaiden Lynn clears anything higher.
And even for the Wolves senior it took all three attempts at 5-02. She clears the next height (5-04) on her second attempt but
could go no higher. Juggling attempts at the high jump pit with her competition in the long jump might have had an adverse
impact on her concentration.

State: Jaiden Lynn/Shasta, 5-04 on last attempt, 12T/26 incl 5NH. Advanced to final
Lynn cleared the opening height 5-03 on her third attempt but nothing higher 12/12 in finals.

No scratches. West Valley freshman Kelsey Morton gets her best throw in early before Shasta senior Faith
Ferguson pops a foot & half personal best to take the state berth away from the upstart.

State: Faith Ferguson 35-00.75 23/25 did not advance

No scratches although section leader Magnus Nielsen of Chico was disqualified from competition before the EAL championship
due competing in college meets and subsequently lying about it when asked. The other 150' plus discus thrower in the section,
Pierce's Humberto Esqueda stopped competing in mid-April and thus didn't qualify to compete. This made things a lot easier for
Lassen's Zachary Hart who didn't need his best to win.

State: Zachary Hart/Lassen, 137-09 20/21 did not advance
Prelim leader: McKay Madsen/Clovis North (Ces), 206-11. Needed throw 161-09 to make finals.

No scratches. A good competition as Whipple and Collins better their previous bests while scaring the 18 feet mark. Doesn't
matter as section leader Lynn pops one just a few inches short of 19 feet to win.

State: Jaiden Lynn/Shasta, 18-07.25 (1.1) 8/30 advanced to the finals.

No scratches. The large field is whittled down to two vaulters, West Valley's David Irwin and three-time
section champion Orland's Logan Meredith. Irwin clears 13 feet on his first attempt by at least a foot but his pole knocks
the bar off the standard so it counts as a miss. Meredith misses badly on first attempts at the height. Irwin on his next attempt
clears 13 feet easily and pushes the pole away so it doesn't cause a problem. Meredith also clears the height. At 13' 3,
Irwin successfully clears the height on his first attempt, a new personal best. Meanwhile Meredith misses twice at a height
that in years pass is easy for him to clear and is in danger of losing the section title for the first time. But he squeaks
over the bar on his final attempt to stay in the competition. Up the bar goes to 13' 6. Irwin makes three feeble attempts at
this new height, all misses. Meredith clears it on his first attempt. Competition over.

State: Logan Meredith/Orland, NH. 21T/29 incl 9 NH. Opening height was 15-0
Prelim leader: Kai Anderson 15-10 no misses. Needed to clear 15-06 with no misses.

No scratches. Like the pole vault, the boys high jump evolves to a 2 man competition. A dual between Chico's Costantino Thompson
and Yreka's Trevan Crane. Both had cleared 6'4 this season, Thompson twice, Crane once (in his first meet of the year). They are the
only ones to clear 6' 2 and both clear 6' 4 and an inch higher before Thompson sqeezes out a clearance over 6' 6. This is the best
jump by a section athlete since 2017 when three did it.

State: Costantino Thompson/Chico, 6-07 6/27 incl 7NH. Advanced to finals. Opening height was 6-04.
No heighted in finals at the opening height of 6-05

No scratches. No strangers to the section championship as Evie Turner and Faith Ferguson were competing in their fourth
section meet. Neither had won this event before. Turner had thrown over 120 feet, 5 times (once over 130') while Ferguson
had thrown six times over this mark but none over 130 feet. They were the only ones in the field over 120' on the day with
Turner prevailing in the end.

Lindler so even not on his best day he should win and he did.

but Iwvalla responds with a near 24 foot leap of his own, nearly a foot further than he has ever gone before. The next
two jumps by Newkirk are very impressive (unmeasured but likely over 24 ft) but unfortunately both were foul attempts.

Chico splits (Taylor 2:23, Sienna 2:32, Mira 2:27 & Ava 2:21). Despite Jones being a bit rusty at the distance, Chico held off
an honest attempt by Hope to claim the state berth in the event while running the second fastest time in section history (&
also a meet and stadium record), admittingly a small sample size.

No scratches. All in all the running of this large field relay race proceeded without incident. The competition between
Trinity and U Prep got the closest during third leg when Noah Gaddy cut the advantage to within a couple strides but after the
final exchange you knew Poburko was not going to relinquish the lead. Trinity splits (Kormeier, 2:05.0, Robles 2:05.6,
Straatmann 2:02.7, Poburko 2:02.7). The Wolves win their third straight 4x800m relay title and remain the only section
winner since the CIF put the event on the state meet schedule.

Vikings in a much tighter affair at the Division I Championships. Meanwhile Weed had a much easier time and went unpressed in
advancing to the section final. Tight exchanges were made all around and left Foothill & PV in a virtual tie with 100m to go.
Weed was third a stride or two back. Jones opens up a very small lead early and is able to hold on to most of it. Weed freshman
Collins almost steals the show by rapidly decreasing the gap with the race leaders and probably would of won if the race was 5m
longer. As it was we had three teams under 50 seconds, something that likely has never before whether at the Section Final or
any other meet or invitational in the Northern Section.

No scratches. Four teams had legitimate shots at winning this race Enterprise, Pleasant Valley, Chico and Las Plumas although
it was the Hornets to lose as they came in as the section leaders although they had lost to PV twice, at the WV Invitational and
EAL Championships. They pretty much ran a perfect race here and never lost control of the race. A game LP squad was in the mix
at the last exchange but the final pass wasn't completed until outside the zone. Las Plumas can take some solace that hard charging
of Newkirk likely kept the Enterprise's anchor completely engaged through to the line. As it turned out, Enterprise's time was not
only a stadium and meet record but a school and section record as well. Fall River was never in contention when their faulty second
exchange occurred.

Brianna Hayes/CORE Butte scratches, replaced by Sammie Miller/Etna. At the gun, Martins takes off like shot out
of a cannon. Wellersdick, Merrill are the only ones in the field making any attempt to stay close. Wellersdick lead over Merrill
expands in the second lap and even more in the penultimate circuit.
Martins lead over the Chico junior expands in lap 2 but the gap expands very little in lap three as Martins pace visibly slows.
Still the Trojan senior has an eight second lead over her closest section rival with 400m to go. Wellersdick with nothing to
lose makes a go of it on the final circuit and runs her final lap almost as fast as her first. She is rewarded with a five
second PR as she cuts Martins lead to a little more than a couple seconds. Behind the leaders, Cutler shoots around Merrill early
in the closing lap then has to hold off a late charge by Merrill down the homestretch to take third.

Jackson Hein/PV, Bill Kormeier/Trinity scratch, replaced by Adrian Flores-Solis/Red Bluff and Oliver Liberato/Shasta.
Live Oak's Adrian Cuevas takes point on the opening lap and the rest of the field seems satisfied to let him lead until the second
circuit when Poburko takes over despite the pace of the lead pack actually slowing. The third time around Poburko presses the pace,
causing the field to string out behind the Trinity junior with Cleek staying the closest then its Anderson, Austin and Stabel.
Poburko ramps down the pace further early in lap four which drops everybody but Cleek before he too fades over the closing 200m as
Poburko closing 61 split proves to be too hot to handle.

No scratches. A good start by the field but the race quickly becomes a three girl affair as Severne, the section leader,
is closely shadowed by Kormeier and Marinescu. Severne is able to maintain a small advantage over her closest
section rivals through the finish with the Trinity freshman out leaning the Chico sophomore to take second. All three
plus for fourth and fifth place finishers run personal bests on the day.

JR Figueroa scratched, replaced by Caleb Nagos. A three man race initially as Carter, Lema and Miskin separate
from the field early but the middle of the race sees Carter pull away and subsequently holds this advantage through
to the end. The top four run personal bests and were the four best invididual performances in the section this year.
Even after his trip to state, it remains the only time Carter broke 15 seconds as his next best (15.30) would have
only placed third here. Lema also rose to the occasion as his next best (15.71) would have only netted him fourth

Heading into the race, Talyn Hanly the second fastest in the section at this distance has never beaten Choi the section leader
although most of the loses are usually close. This race ends no different but it didn't look that way until
the very end as Hanly's aggressive start gaps Choi and the Shasta senior still holds a couple stride lead
coming into the homestretch. This lead gradually shrinks but it doesn't appear it is decreasing fast enough for
Choi to win. Only in the closing final meters (5 meters or so) does Hanly's form becomes more ragged does the
lead disappear allowing Choi, who's form and momentum never wavers, to hit the line first.

Zephyr Kenny/Mt Shasta scratches, replaced by Thomas Castles/Enterprise. Jackson Chase runs a strong opening
200m and is clearly the leader coming off the turn. Yet Larceval closing 100m reduces what was a commanding
lead to a little more than a lean in determining the winner. Chico sophomore Kohen Struff, although not contention
for the win, maintains his lead over the rest of the field in placing third. All three improve upon their personal
bests. This is likely the first time in section history where we've had two runners under 49 seconds at the section

No scratches. Kind of surprising. Freshman Collins opens up a small gap on Weaver by mid race and holds it
to the finish. Collins and Weaver run times that would place them in the top ten on the section
all time 100m list yet neither of them runs a personal best, In fact nobody in the race does. Nevertheless,
it was the fastest winning time since Kelli Enos set the meet & stadium records back in 2001.

No scratches. Halfway through it's a three man race with McNally, Davis and Wilkes contending for the lead while
the section leader, Jayden Newkirk is in serious trouble finding himself in fourth or fifth. Yet his superior closing
speed catches all those ahead of him by the line although to get McNally he needed every meter available. Top three all
run personal bests and were the only ones under 11 seconds.

Martins, Hanly scratch before the meet, replaced by Shackelford, Vengley. Csutoras scratches late, deciding on
her own not to run, surprising her coaches, by declaring she wouldn't win (debatable) so why run. Certainly made the
road to qualifying for state much easier for top seed Brianna Hayes. She runs a strong opening lap with only
Winstead-Stroing trying to stay close. She falls back to the chase pack after one circuit. Kropp is next to take
a run at Hayes but loses momentum after closing to a few meters. After which Hayes closes the door and easily runs
the fastest closing 200m to win going away. Alchin surges away from a disintegrating chase pack late to pass
Kropp and take second.

Jayden Stabel/Paradise Adventist scratches, replaced by Eli Cleek/Providence Christian. No playing around with
field for Jackson Hein this go around for the section record holder and two-time state qualifier as he explodes
to an opening lap just under 55 seconds that put the stadium and meet record in serious jeopardy. A closing lap
58 seals the deal giving the Viking senior a new seasonal best while breaking the over two decade stadium and
meet records. A twenty minute break from his runner-up finish in the 400m proves sufficient for Larceval as he
is able to use a late kick break away from the chase pack and cruise past Carter Murphy late and take second.

JR Figueroa, Lucas Lawrence scratch, replaced by Atreyu Dulen and Darren Goodman. Blake Lema starts the race like
he was shot out of a rocket and had a significant gap over Carter, the section leader, coming into the home stretch.
Carter certainly had a worried look on his face as he passed the press box with 50m to go. Now all Lema had to do was
successfully navigate a couple more sets of hurdles and the race was his. Unfortunately it was not to be. Once again the
tenth hurdle, so close to the finish line, was the bug-a-boo. He clips the hurdle, almost falls to the ground but comes to
a complete stop long enough to Carter to cruise by for the win. Fatigue was certainly a factor, he was going at a pace he'd
never gone before. Oh well there is next year as Lema is only a junior. Yet talk about a guy having your number, Lema was
runner-up to Carter nine times in the 110 hurdles and eight times in the 300 hurdles, most of the races were close and some he
had the lead or at least was even with his crosstown rival but never beat him this year.

fifteen seconds. Behind the leaders, negative splitting freshman Rogue Cutler claimed third with Merrill having to
outbattle Mckernan coming down the homestretch to hold onto fourth.

Jackson Poburko, Kyle Cleek scratch, replaced by Adrian Flores-Solis & Vincent Myers. The opening 1600m was at a
relatively pedestrian pace, top ranked Quentin Clarke takes point early and sets the pace for a lead pack also made up of Nolan McLaughlin,
Seth Austin and Adrian Flores-Solis. Midrace the lead pack remains mostly intact with only Flores-Solis is showing much sign of distress. A lap later
Flores-Solis has dropped out of contention and is caught by Denman & Granados with Myers not too far behind. Up front, Austin stay close to fresher
Viking duo despite the fresher pace. Clarke;s more robust pace finally drops Austin but McLaughlin stays close until the final circuit.
when a further racheting down the pace drops his teammate. McLaughlin left in no-mans land and is caught by a revived Austin but rallied down the
homestretch to hold off the U Prep senior and place second. Granados pulls away from Denman to take fourth, with Denman fifth after holding off
a late charge by Myers.

No scratches. Holly Alchin opening lap gave the Viking a sizeable lead with Red Bluff, Hope and Chico duking it
out for second. Csutoras' third leg put the Panthers in the driver's seat for second but her inroads into Pleasant
Valley lead was modest. Enos closes well to give the Vikings the win and fastest time of the year. Jones strong
second half closed the door on any hope that Red Bluff & Hope had on finishing in the runner-up position.

No scratches. Top ranked Enterprise had been upset by Pleasant Valley the previous week at the Division I Championships
after thrashing them at the EAL Championship. The key was how much of a lead did Enterprise give their anchor in trying to
hold off the closer for the Vikings, Jackson Hein. Hein caught Chico then closed on but could not catch McFarland. Panther closer
Struyft after being passed by Hein, saw his advantage over 400m winner Jackson Chase nearly dissappear before accelerating away
coming down the home stretch as Chase had used up his energy reserve.
