JC cross country The Butte College men's cross country team wrapped up the GVC title by holding off second place Shasta by 17 points in the conference finals held Thursday at Lake Oroville AfterBay. Butte's Angel Ventura and james Johnstone finished in second and third repectively by getting through the 4mile course in 22:10. Anthony Jimenez and Forest Kirk finished 4th and 5th. The meets top seven made all-confernece. Joey Griffo, 10th and Cain Madrigal (11th)were intrumental in the team win by rallying to finish ahead of Shasta's fourth and fifth runners. Francesca Lacebal finished 4th for Butte, which ended up fourth overall in the finals held at Lake Oroville Afterbay. With her finish in 21:17 on the 3mile course, Lacebal made all conference temam while teammates Emily Moreno, Ashley Morse qualified for the NorCal Regional meet after placing 9th and 11th, respectively. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Shasta College women's team took five of the top seven spots to win the Golden Valley Conference championships. The women scored 17 points, while Yuba followed with 39 and Butte had 65. The Knights' Stephanie Ksenzulak won in a time of 19 minutes, 15 seconds, while Stephanie Frescas was second in 19:27. Brittany Williams was third in 20:10. Teammates Becca Lightfoot (21:27) and Danielle Moriarity (21:29) were sixth and seventh respectively. The Shasta men finished second with 39 points to Butte (22 points), but Andrew Milne won the individual title, placing first in 21:24.
