COLLEGE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Butte third at Judd Invite Led by Anthony Jimenez's seventh-place performance against the field of 52 competitors, the Roadrunners cracked the top five at the Gary Judd Invitational on the Sierra College campus in Rocklin. Jimenez went through the four-mile course in 23 minutes, 53 seconds. James Johnston crossed the finish line 13 seconds behind in eighth place while Angel Ventura (14th), Adam Carothers (18th) and Lionel Paledo (23rd) rounded out Butte's top showings. COLLEGE WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Lazebal in top 10 at Judd Invite Butte's Francesca Lazebal finished ninth among the Gary Judd Invitational's 52-runner field at Sierra College in Rocklin. She completed the 3.1-mile course in 22 minutes, CROSS COUNTRY Mustangs place fourth At Rocklin, Delta's Mary Courtright finished second at the Gary Judd Invitational at Sierra College, leading the Mustangs to a fourth-place finish. Jarrod Casano led the Delta men's team to a fifth-place finish. Modesto Junior College men win Gary Judd Invitational ROCKLIN - On a very windy day not conducive to fast cross country times, the Modesto Junior College men ran away with the Gary Judd Invitational first place plaque at the Sierra College course. MJC led with 30 points followed by De Anza 55, Butte 70, Sacramento City 87, Delta 125, and Yuba 167. The team was paced by invitational champion, Nuno Espadinha, whose ime of 22:38 placed him almost a complete minute in front of second place inisher, Abiy Gebrekristos (23:33) of De Anza College. Espadinha ran a complete race and saved enough energy to cheer his teammates on throughout the final mile. This was an especially good performance for the team after taking three weeks off from competition in order to rest their legs and train. Anthony Mallory was the second MJC finisher placing 3rd overall with a ime of 23:43. Overall MJC had 4 athletes medal, placing in the top ten verall. Rounding out that group were, John Rea (Weston Ranch), 6th (23:47) and Ronnie Bruce 9th (24:18). Victor Vierya rounded out MJC's scoring top five with a time of 24:39 and placing 11th, one place off the medal stand. This was by far MJC's best performance this season. Notably, Marcos Barba (Ripon) and Jose Cuevas (Weston Ranch) finished 12th and 13th respectively within 5 seconds of Vierya.
