Eureka, CA -- The Butte College men and women's cross-country teams both won their respective Golden Valley Championships on Saturday, taking first place at the event, hosted by the College of the Redwoods.
Butte's men's team took first with 27 team points, ahead of the College of the Redwoods at 58 and College of the Siskiyous at 65. For the women, the Roadrunners had 39 points to win with Siskiyous in second at 55 points and Shasta College in third at 56.
The top seven runners for each race were named to the all-conference team. Butte's men's time had four all-conference runners, while the women also had four.
Jacob Graber took second out of 32 runners in the 4-mile race on the men's side for Butte, clocking in at 20 minutes, 59 seconds. Teammate Justin Garcia was fourth at 21:30, Masen Becerril was fifth at 21:34, and Samuel Iliff ran a 22:04 in seventh place.
Finishing off the team was Jericho Ulibarri in ninth at 22:20, Martin Hernandez in 11th at 22:30 and Daniel Schilling in 19th at 24:25.
On the women's side, Talia Swangler was first overall out of 21 runners in a 3-mile race, recording a time of 20:41. Malene Kavanagh was fifth at 22:56, Caleigh Calvo was sixth at 23:16 and Natalie Davis was seventh 23:32. Haley Pritchard was 21st at 32:31.
Butte head coach Seth Roberts credited both teams for their strong performances Saturday, adding that the squads will have a chance to see how they rank at the NorCal Championships, set for Friday at Sierra College.
