Iris Severne scratched prior to the meet. Naia Kristoffersen scratched at the meet to concentrate on
other events. Ally Sasaki, the first alternate, was likely a meet no-show. Ahmani Collins was a event
rookie coming into the season but being the fastest in the field allows her to overcome form issues.
Collins, over a half foot off her best, is still the only one over 18 feet. Overall this was a quality
field in which five were over 17 feet something that probably has never happened at this state qualifying meet.

pull out at the last minute. Mid afternoon temperatures in the mid 90s suck alot of the enthusiasm for the race
still Chico gets an comfortable victory over the crosstown rival Pleasant Valley to return to state in the event
for the third straight year. Alawys nice to have Taylor on deck after things tighten up by the third exchange.

No qualifying necessary for event, Mt Shasta pulls out after signing up for event earlier in the week.
Trinity was the pre-race favorite having won the event two years in a row with essentially the same personal.
Not surprisingly, the Wolves had a 3-4 meter lead halfway through following Kormeier's opening leg (1:59) and
Robles solid second leg (2:01). However Anderson's (1:56-57) very aggressive start had him catch and pass Straatmann
coming into the homestretch with a lap to go in his leg. He expanded his small lead in his final lap and handed
the baton to Larceval with about the same lead as the deficit he made up. Poburko (1:57) made a charge to halve the lead
with 400m to go but got no closer as he was unable to sustain a pace necessary to overcome the Eagle's senior's 1:54 spllt.

State: West Valley 8:07.59, 17/18 overall (Lofthus 2:05.61, Rulon 2:01.65, Anderson 2:00.81, Larceval 1:59.52)

No scratches. The promise of the tight race turned into a rout as Kormeier's quick start with efficient hurdle work
left the field running for second place. The Trinity sophomore, had dipped under 15 seconds a couple times
in the season but this race must have come as a big surprise to her as she comes home with the Northern Section
record in the event. A very tight race for second with Severne passing Sims late as both also run personal bests.

Brianna Hayes pulls out of consideration after winning the MVL. Molly Shewey scratches prior to the meet.
Taylor Wellersdick, contemplated going after the meet record prior to the meet but race condition (mid 90s with a
breezy crosswind) made that difficult. Still a solid workman performance by the Chico senior as she runs a pace
no one could match while also realizing she still had two more races to do. Gist, Cutler and Kaizen battle for
second but ultimately the Chico freshman holds off a late challenge from Cutler with Kaizen holding on as best
she can. All three run personal bests.

Colusa scratches prior to the meet due to an injury to one of their ruanners, very unfortunate since they were one
of three team to run sub 50 this season. Chico runs a cleaner race than Pleasant VAlley and held the lead for
all but the final 10m of the race but ultimately they could not give Sufuentes a large enough lead to hold off
Marinello. As it was the Viking were one hundredth off from tying their seasonal best (& section record) while
Chico became the second fastest 4x100 relay ever in the section. West Valley, finishing third, became the fourth
team to go sub 50 this season (likely something that has never happened before).

No scratches. Pretty tight between between the top six teams with Shasta only garnering a small advantage
over West Valley, who had a small advantage over Corning, who had a small advantage over Pierce, advantage over
Foothill and Enterprise after making the last exchange. An excellent close allows Shasta to stretch their lead
coming down the homestretch to get the win. West Valley is a solid runner up while Foothill hovering behind the
Hornets around fifth place pulls away and subsequently pushes pass Corning and Pierce to take third.

Derek Rulon, Marcus Newell, Justin Plummer, Juan-Rigby Lugo, Oliver Liberato, Eli Cleek scratch to
consentrate on other events. They are replaced by Maldonado, Langerwerf, Wilson and Garcia-Gomez which didn't
improve the quality of the field but ultimately it didn't matter. A pedestrian pace for the opening 800m
had Poburko, Anderson, Gist and Lofthus in a tight lead pack. Poburko, the pre-race favorite and two time state qualifier
in the event, picked up the pace after coming by the halfway mark which dropped Lufthus then Gist from contention.
Not Anderson though as he hangs with the Trinity senior pace and subsequently has to the termarity to take over the lead
coming into the homestrtch for the penultimate time. Poburko appears up to the challenge and pulls even but is
unable to repass Anderson going down the backstretch. The closing 200m sees Anderson pick up his tempo even more
reopening a gap that Popburko can't close to give the WV junior the win and the state berth.

No scratches. Big showdown between two of the fastest female sprinters in section history, Collins & Marinello.
Breezy crosswind earlier in the meet had calmed down significantly by the time this race was run. It was surprising how
quickly sophomore Collins openned up a gap on Marinello and was able to slowly enlarge it over the rest of the race. Good
reason is that she ran the fastest auto-timed race in section history while the Viking Senior was a little over a tenth of
a second off her best.

No scratches. Iwualla, Fragoso, Foss hot start gives tham a slight advantage over Williamson. However he gains control
during the middle of the race and held the lead from there to the end. Flourney's reacted well to the gun but noticeably
behind Williamson's but his close was nearly as good as he surged by all but Willliamson although he was closing on him

scratches at the meet. They were replaced by Layla Maldonado, Tatum Hunter and Lucia Vidrio-Maderos. An aggressive start
by Hayes and Hankins leaves them well ahead only 200m into the race. It stays very close through 400m but afterwards
Hankins is unable to hang with the CORE Butte senior. Hayes goes onto win in a rout with her time a personal best and

on the 4x400 relay. Both Kormeier and Sims are out well with Sims appearing to hold a slight advantage. She
maintains a small lead coming down the homestretch but a slight wobble comiong off the final hurdle was enough

No scratches. Lema makes up the stagger on all those running to his outside heading into the turn. Even though he clips
a couple of hurdles rounding the turn his momentum is not visibly slowed. His form is clean coming down the home stretch until
the final hurdle which he hits hard, such that the hurdle ends up partially blocking the lane inside of his. This impact knocked
Lema off-balance yet he somehow manages to stay upright and with enough momentum to come home with a section record. Having to
negoiate this hurdle may have cost McDonald a chance at second (officials were huddled for a time to determine whether or not to DQ Lema
but ultimately decided not to).

Kylie Erickson, Rogue Cutler scratch at the meet, replaced by Katelyn Copper. Taylor Wellersdick, with two
races (& wins) already under her belt and a leg on Chico's 4x400 relay yet to go, goes out relatively conservative with
the added benefit of setting a manageable pace for her teammate Shewey. Ryah Kellogg is also up for the challenge
and stays with Shewey through 1600m. WEllersdick picks up the pace a bit after passing halfway mark widening the gap with
her closest competitors. Kellogg is dropped by Shewey but is in no danger dropping any more places. The fast final lap
gives Taylor a convincing win. Molly closes well and comes home with a nine second PR. Kellogg also runs a personal best
and as does Kaizen, giving the CV senior two on the day. Brianna Hayes comes home as the fifth finisher under 12 minutes.

No scratches. A tactially strange race, particularly by Gaddy who was the section event leader by 16 seconds (over Anderson)
coming into the meet. Anderson, Gonzales and Lofthus were doubling back from the 1600m, everybody else was fresh. Gaddy, Anderson, Girt
and Lugo take over as the lead pack after Lara holds point for the opening 400m. The next three laps Gaddy does most of the leading
as these four come through 1600m in 4:55. Gaddy presses the pace on the 5th lap to drop Girt from contention. Anderson gets on Gaddy's
shoulder rounding the turn before surging by Gaddy going down the back stretch in lap six. The move puts a 5 meter gap on Gaddy and another 5m gap on Lugo.
Unfortunately Anderson's bid to take the race fizzles as his pace visibly slows allowing Gaddy to repass Anderson rounding the turn.
Staying engaged Lugo also catches and passes Anderson coming into the home stretch and looks better in doing so than Gaddy a few yard ahead. Lugo
accelerates toward Gaddy and catches him coming off the penultimate turn. He promptly blows by the U Prep senior and while Gaddy tries to stay close to the
the Viking junior as the duo rounds the race's final turn. When he sees he's not making any headway Gaddy steps off the gas so
much so that a reenergied Anderson makes a concerted effort to pass him right before the line.

No scratches. Hankins gives the Vikings the lead, Marinello expands the lead with Enos and Sims maintaining for a
comfortable win despite a second off their seasonal best. Every other team except Colusa does run a seasonal best
by a lot in some cases. Wellersidick, running her fourth race on the day (this one on short rest) couldn't hold off
