The Enterprise runner's latest step came Wednesday when he held off teammate Zach Kaylor and Pleasant Valley High School's Tanner Hickman in a four-team meet at Enterprise Community Park. In a race featuring runners from Enterprise, PV, Red Bluff and Oroville, D'Aquisto handled the three miles in 16 minutes, 39 seconds. He pulled away from his two closest competitors s hortly before the 2-mile mark and never relinquished the lead. "My legs felt good," D'Aquisto said. "I was pleased with my run. I wanted to do well for my team. We were really focused on trying to come in 1-2." Despite batting a case of the flu, Kaylor was able to summon enough energy to overtake Hickman, the top-ranked runner in the Northern Section this year, for the second half of the 1-2 finish in 16:43. Hickman crossed at 16:46. No one else came within a minute of the top three. Pleasant Valley beat Enterprise heads up 27-31 and Red Bluff 19-42. Oroville didn't field a full team, so the Hornets and Spartans won the dual with the Tigers. Enterprise and Red Bluff didn't go heads up. Hickman heard of D'Aquisto and had raced against Kaylor. The senior said it was his third meet of the year and was pleased with his time. He also knows there is plenty of racing left to be done. "It's going to be fun racing against those two (D'Aquisto and Kaylor) this season," Hickman said. "You always want to have good competition that pushes you." In the girls race, Red Bluff's Erynn Rebol outsprinted Enterprise's Jerri Spence over the final 200 yards to win in 21:00. Spence, a junior like Rebol, took second in 21:06. PV's Emily Ogden was third (21:14) followed by Hornets junior Brianna Winstead (21:22). The Hornets had six girls in the top 10 and topped the Vikings 21-36. PV beat the Spartans 20-41. Oroville again didn't have a full team for the girls race. Rebol shadowed Spence for much of the first two miles with Ogden eventually falling off the pace early. The Spartans' runner made a move going up a gravel road, but Spence raced past her up a small hill prior at the start of the final mile. But Rebol managed to get back on Spence's shoulder before showing a better kick at the end. "We were running together and working with each other," Rebol said. "She (Spence) is a real good runner and she pulled me along. When someone gets a little ahead, you surge so you can stay in contact with them and hope things get better."
