PALO CEDRO - Revisions to the Foothill course did not deter Shasta High senior Andrew Skoy as he rolled to a 40-second win Wednesday in the second and final Eastern Athletic-Sac River League Center Meet held on the Palo Cedro campus.
Skoy ran the 5,000-meter course with hills and woods in 16 minutes, 20 seconds, easily besting Chico's Jack Emanuel (17:00) and Charlie Giannini (17:29) as the Panthers took a more tactical approach to the race.
The Chico's boys, after their more deliberate approach to the opening mile allowed Skoy and PV's top runner, Donovan Freer to open up a sizeable gap, picked up their pacing the remainder of the way to win the team title going away by collecting a scant 23 points thanks to a pair of Panthers in the top three and a total of five in the top seven. Behind Emanual, Giannini, Chico had Ty Thompson (17:51) fifth, Bretten Farrell (17:55) sixth, and Noah Trento (17:56) in seventh. For good measure the Panthers piled it on with two more in the top ten with Riley Farrell (18:00) in eighth and Rory Monninger (18:04) taking ninth.
Pleasant Valley (59 points) took second behind Freer's strong showing with Shasta was third (60), Foothill fourth (121), Enterprise (134) fifth and Red Bluff sixth (154).
PV's Donovan Freer finished in fourth (17:37) with teammates Jafet Cordova was 11th at 18:09, Xavier Simms was 12th at 18:13 and Kyle Johnson was 14th at 18:24 for the Vikings. Jacob Hoe (19:03) and Scott Kampfen (19:05) were 21st and 22nd, respectively.
After Skoy, Shasta's Jordan Zane was 10th (18:04), Luke Bland was 13th (18:17), Max Richmond was 17th (18:39) and Anthony Vallelunga was 25th (19:08).

For the girls, a more confident Shasta High freshman Hana Hall easily bested the first center meet winner's Red Bluff senior Naomi Renfroe, to win the race in 20:19 and led the Wolves to a team victory with 36 points. Chico (48), Foothill (55), Red Bluff (96), and PV (128), rounded out the field, respectively with only Enterprise unble to field a complete team.
Red Bluff's Naomi Renfroe was runnerup this time around in 20:30, Foothill freshman Grace Dudley, who won the JV race the previous center meet, was third 21:00, Chico freshman Nahkia Clements was fourth 21:20 while Shasta senior Miranda Avalos (21:22) rounded out the top five.
The rest of the winning Shasta team included Isabelle Tate-Arevalo in eighth (22:08), Aislinn Matagulay in ninth (22:08) and Emma Robles in 13th (22:35) who now appear have the edge over Chico in winning the league title in two weeks time.

As she has often done this season, Nahkia Clements served as the top Chico runner, taking fourth place in 21:20. Backing up Clements were Abigail Edwards who took sixth for Chico at 21:45, Jenna Asnault was 11th at 22:11 and Jessalyn Ayars was 12th at 22:17. Teammates Natalie Harris (23:07) and Stefanie Valdez (23:16) were 15th and 18th, respectively.
Foothill had two more in the top ten with freshman Rize Oliveira also bumped up from JV, seventh (21:54) and sophomore teammate Mason Baseley in 10th (22:09). This young and hungary Foothill squad, with two freshman and two sophomores in their top five, could upset the Panthers at league if Chico doesn't run well on their home course.
For Pleasant Valley, with top runner Haley Askew missing, Amber Pickering was the team's top runner in 14th place at 22:47. Bianca Acheson was 24th at 23:28, Elizabeth Mercado was 33rd at 26:48, Kelley Taylor was 39th at 31:27 and Kenna Gardner was 40th at 21:31 for the Vikings.
Red Bluff's second runner was Brianna Tackmier in 17th (23:11).
Enterprise's top runner was Caroline Forseth in 21st (23:24).
Both Chico and Pleasant Valley will next compete at the Trinity Invitational, set for a week from Wednesday.
